SpamTitan

Passive OS Fingerprinting

Passive OS Fingerprinting is a plugin that allows SpamTitan Gateway to identify the operating system of the connecting SMTP client. This is useful as most spam originates from compromised Windows desktop systems, so SpamTitan Gateway can penalize Windows XP operating systems and reward Unix operating systems.

SpamTitan Gateway can only identify the operating system of the last hop client. That means if a spam message is relayed through one of your own relays before reaching SpamTitan Gateway, the OS fingerprinting results are those of the relay and not the originating SMTP spam client. Also, NAT routers and firewalls can make some systems unidentifiable.

Go to Anti-Spam Engine > Settings > Passive OS Fingerprinting to enable or disable OS fingerprinting.
