Before Installing OTG for Windows

The following requirements must be met before installing OTG. There are also some tips to consider beforehand that may help avoid potential issues after installation. Please read through carefully:

  • You must be using WebTitan Cloud V. 4.05 or higher.

  • Supported Operating Systems:

    • Windows 7

    • Windows 8

    • Windows 10

  • Admin install privileges are required for installation. This guide describes a command-line installation which is the quickest way to install OTG, as it automatically creates a Roaming location in WebTitan Cloud as part of the install.

  • Your Antivirus (AV) may need to be temporarily disabled before installation, as some AVs need to 'trust' OTG in their settings. It can be re-enabled immediately after installation.

  • OTG uses ports 7771 and 80 (inbound and outbound) for API communication to WebTitan Cloud, so please ensure these ports are not blocked.

  • Components such as “Secure DNS” in AVs like AVG and AVAST are not compatible with WebTitan Cloud, as they send DNS requests via an encrypted connection between your web browser and their own DNS servers. These component features can usually be disabled within their products UI.

  • Previous installs: The installer will try to create a new Roaming location only when there is no location key information available to it. If it finds any previous settings, e.g. a supplied config file in the install folder or the details supplied as command line parameters, it will use these and will not create a new location.

  • Ensure to thoroughly test your install script to make sure it contains all the parameters you require, particularly if you are planning to install on multiple systems with one command line script.

Take a look at Optional OTG Installation Parameters for a description of available parameters and how they can be used. For example, you can use the BYPASS_IPS parameter if a remote user might visit a location that is also using WebTitan Cloud for filtering, e.g. Head Office. This will disable OTG while they are at this location.
