About Blacklisting and Whitelisting

Blacklisting: No spam checking is performed for domains or email addresses that are added to the blacklist, they are automatically blocked.

Whitelisting: Content-based spam checking is not performed for domains or email addresses that are added to the whitelist, however front line tests are such as RBL, SPF, greylisting, virus checking and attachment scanning are still applied.

The following are important to note when using blacklists and whitelists:

  • An email address cannot be whitelisted and blacklisted at the same time. If you add a sender's email address to a blacklist that is already on a whitelist, they will automatically be removed from the whitelist.

  • Per-recipient whitelists and blacklists overrule global whitelists and blacklists for a domain.

  • Whitelisted senders will bypass the SpamTitan anti-spam engine, however, they will still be scanned for viruses and banned attachments.

  • Whitelist and blacklist sender testing is performed after a message is received, therefore, front line tests such as RBL, SPF or greylisting may still apply.
