Configure your Virtual Machine to use DNS Proxy
By default, your virtual machine uses an Azure provided DNS server. This setting needs to be changed to point to DNS Proxy. Follow the steps below to configure your virtual machine to use DNS Proxy as it's default DNS server.
Important
The virtual machine must be restarted immediately after this setting is changed to begin using DNS Proxy for processing DNS requests. Otherwise, the previous DNS settings will be used.
Sign in to your Microsoft Azure portal at Microsoft Azure Portal
.
Enter virtual machine in search and select
Virtual machines to open the Virtual Machines page.
Select the virtual machine to which you deployed DNS Proxy.
From the virtual machine page take note of the Private IP Address of the virtual machine:
Directly below Private IP Address, select the Virtual network/subnet link (in the example below, it is ExampleVirtualMachine-vnet/default) and the virtual network page opens.
From the sidebar menu on the virtual network page, select DNS servers.
On the DNS Servers page, select Custom.
Paste the Private IP Address copied in Step 5 into the IP Address field.
Select Save.
Restart the virtual machine to which you have deployed DNS Proxy immediately.
